WHAT IS KALONITE?

The word Kalonite comes from the Greek work Kalon which means the ultimate in physical and moral beauty.  In the past decades two new sculpture materials, Lucite and Kalonite, entered into the art world. Lucite is an acrylic monomer that is clear.  Kalonite is a space age polymer that has color yet maintains it's transparency.

Kalonite exhibits a gem like quality with delicate soft color and sparkling transparency. Kalonite refracts light producing a defused glow from within.  The gem-like quality is from proprietary chemical formations, not pigmentations.  Therefore, the color variations are natural, similar to translucent materials found in nature.   The color in Kalonite ranges from a soft rose to a vibrant amethyst.

Light flowing through the sculpture creates an impressive and delightful diffusion effect,
adding to and becoming part of the sculpture.  Special lighting techniques can be used to accentuate shadows and other unique characteristics within the piece.  Light focused upon the Kalonite sculpture or coming from underneath helps create a dimension that must be seen to be appreciated.  Studio lighting or sunlight will also draw the eye to its radiance.
